Media Training workshop, Accra, Ghana 2-4 September 2014

Migrating out of Poverty’s West Africa core partner, the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS), trained 16 professional journalists in a 3 day workshop on the terminologies, nuances and issues linking migration and poverty in Ghana and West Africa more broadly. The participants formed a new Media Network on Migration – MENOM, Ghana - which will seek to generate and encourage better reporting of migration issues.

DFID Livelihoods Advisers’ Conference 7 October 2013

Dr Priya Deshingkar, Research Director of the Migrating out of Poverty RPC, delivered a session at DFID Livelihoods Advisers’ 2013 Annual Conference. Speaking to around 50 Advisers, her session on supporting the transition from rural livelihoods discussed the structure of jobs and employment, the conventional response, what the response should be and entry points for DFID.  Priya’s session generated significant interest in the RPC work that she referenced, and it was clear that the Advisers would welcome more evidence to inform their work.
